Annually, on the 1st Sunday of October, a very romantic bike race takes place in Tuscany, near the gorgeous village of Gaiole, in the heart of Chianti area. L’Eroica is a race, even if it’s not a real competitive race, for lovers of cycling as it once was. If you have a bike built before 1987, you can registered it as “bici eroica” and participate to this unique race, following one of the 4 different levels itineraries. Mostly the race is along tuscan white roads (“strade bianche”) up and down the famous rolling hills. The sense is to preserve these typical country roads and the simple life is still along them. The riders can stop at one of the lovely farmhouses and trattoria’s being along the way, just to eat some tuscan dishes, taste a good wine and enjoy the panorama. This idea has been so loved by public and riders coming here from all other the world that L’Eroica has already been staged in Japan last may and will be held also in England next year, as Eroica Britannia. The race is taking place in the Peak District. Riders are warned!
